“And why do you wonder that Jesus has risen? But it is wonderful that He has not risen alone, but that He has also raised many others of the dead who have appeared in Jerusalem to many.” – The Gospel of Nicodemus (17)

The Gospel of Nicodemus was written in the late 600s and reflects an early tradition that “Easter is a communal and corporate event with Christ rather than individual and solitary event for Christ” (Crossan, “Resurrecting Easter,” 68). Through resurrection, Jesus became the Resurrection, not just for Himself but for any who puts their faith in Him.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26).
